change default gnome terminal size

Post by vst » Fri Nov 04, 2011 10:46 am

Hi there,

to change the default geometry size of an gnome terminal, you have several options.
First you can change it for the default gnome terminal:
Go to System -> Preferences -> Preferred Applications -> System and change the Terminal Emulator to "Custom".
Command: gnome-terminal --geometry=237x24
Execution flag: -x # Execute the remainder of the command line inside the terminal.

Or open an terminal window.

Code: Select all

sudo vi /usr/share/vte/termcap/xterm
look for the line starting with :co (means columns)

Code: Select all

:co#80:it#8:li#24:\
change the first (column) and last number (lines) to your needs. eg.

Code: Select all

:co#132:it#8:li#43:\
Once you saved the file and closed all terminal windows, a new window will have the new size.

Valentin
